Election Time In Full Swing!
The recent Berks GOP annual convention at the YR Club to consider candidate endorsements saw most candidates receive the unanimous endorsements of their respective districts.
Receiving unanimous endorsements were:
CONGRESS:
JOE PITTS
CHARLIE DENT
JIM GERLACH
PAT MEEHAN
STATE SENATE
In a contested primary, State Senator DAVE ARGALL in the 29th District received a unanimous endorsement.
STATE REPRESENTATIVE
In Northern Berks 124th legislative district, State Representative JERRY KNOWLES also has a primary opponent. Knowles asked the Berks GOP for an open primary and said he was not seeking an endorsement. His request was denied and he received a unanimous endorsement anyway.
Northern Berks Committee People urged Knowles to reconsider his request and accept their endorsement, citing his "strong conservative leadership in Harrisburg." Those in attendance had a laugh at Knowles' expense when it was learned that in order to save taxpayer dollars, he used duct tape to hold his office chair together in the Tamaqua office. In the end, one Committeeman summed it up by saying "positive behavior deserves positive rewards and Jerry Knowles has been a true steward of the taxpayers money and deserves our unanimous support."
State Representatives also seeking re-election but not facing any primary opposition are:

"I am humbled to have the unanimous endorsement of the Republican Committee in Berks County," Argall said. "The overwhelming support shows the grassroots structure we have in Berks County. I will continue fighting for issues, like property tax elimination, against wasteful government spending and against welfare waste, fraud and abuse, as well as values Berks County residents care about."
